End of Summer Update - 2015
Hello Pike Brothers and Friends!
As we roll into Fall Recruitment, the "Beta" New Member Class, I wanted to let you know that the Kappa Chapter Alumni Advisory Board has been very busy working with the Active Members and Transylvania University to continue the work we started last year.
The Kappa Chapter Website has been updated with a fresher look and higher level of sophistication. More updates will be coming, but we wanted to go on and revise to the current, so prospective new members, parents, and other interested parties could view prior to their arrival on campus. You will find rolling Twitter and Facebook feeds, a chapter calendar, updated contact information, all along with a newer look-as well as several other changes. Links to Greek Life at TU, the Pike National HQ, and Kappa Alumni Association are on there as well. Please let me know your thoughts and suggestions on continued improvements and I will forward those to the Website Chairman.
Three Actives and two Alumni from Kappa Chapter attended the Pike Academy in Memphis in July, where Rush, SLAG, specific Leadership opportunities and other important topics were discussed and reviewed. Over 600 were in attendance overall. The highlight was a visit to the Pi Kappa Alpha Memorial Headquarters. Kappa Chapter was recognized with a Scholarship Award for cumulative 3.1 chapter GPA. The Kappa Chapter Alumni Association received recognition as the William R. Nester Award for Alumni Association of the Year and the William R. Nester Award for Outstanding New Alumni Association based on activities and performance in 2014-2015.
Kappa Chapter began its quarterly road clean fundraiser back in July. They have partnered with LFUCG to clean about 11 miles of rural roads out in Northeast Fayette County. In addition to the fundraiser, this also will contribute individual service hours to meet National and University requirements.
The Alumni Advisory Board has been meeting regularly over the summer to assist the Chapter Leadership in their roles. We have and continue to work directly with the committee chairman to develop and implement their plans for 2015-2016. I will say that the active members have risen to the challenge-and it is good to see them embrace leadership and take charge of their responsibilities.
The Chapter will have the annual weeklong visit with Pike International Headquarter Chapter Consultant, Jared Mayo, starting on Monday, September 14th. This coincides with the first week of official Fall Recruitment at Transylvania- so the timing is excellent.
Kappa Chapter has two Varsity Athletes who returned to campus early for pre-season training- Sophomore Bryce Schwierling (Soccer) and Junior Alex Czujko (Cross Country). We look forward to successful seasons from both! Check out the Transylvania Athletics Page for team calendars- TU may be competing in your area!!
Finally- even though we have the basic roles covered for the Kappa Chapter Alumni Advisory Board, we encourage alumni to join and participate. Please let me know if interested and I will advise you of meeting times and locations.
In the Bonds,
