End of the School Year Update - 2015
Gents,
Smoker for Pike at Transylvania has been established for Saturday, September 26th from 5-7p. Palomar Clubhouse has been secured for location- out Harrodsburg Rd just outside of Man o War Blvd. www.palomarhills.com/. Chapter is going through plans and strategies for Rush next year right now. It would be fantastic to have a similar number of Pike Alumni from last year participate at Smoker again if possible. Chapter has 17 actives going into next fall with the Class of 2015 graduations. Bid Day is September 27th, so we were lucky enough to get the last smoker again next year.
Chapter is in final stages of completing Year End report for National submission- this is being coordinated by Derrick Wonsowski. Chapter has made HUGE advancements this year and has plans to continue moving forward.
All points of the National Requirements for reinstatement have been accomplished, with exception of the 45 man chapter requirement of which we have had much discussion. Again our strategy is to be “at or above standard” in all other categories with thought process that National would not shut down a chapter with that level of performance even if not at 45 members.
As official announcement, the Chapter received a $1,100 donation from an anonymous Kappa Alumni over Alumni Weekend to wrap up the $3,000 philanthropic donation requirement per the conditions document. The $1,100 was sent to The National Brain Tumor Society in honor of active brother Ryan Coyne’s mother. This, along with the $1,900 raised through the Kappa Chapter Garage Sale event which went to St Jude’s Hospital, covered the requirement. There will be ongoing philanthropic activities with the chapter.
AAB will continue to meet over the summer, we will engage EC as needed and hold them accountable for what they need to accomplish over the summer. Goals and courses of action have been determined and assigned.
Kappa currently has three active member commitments to attend “the Academy” in Memphis on July 30 – Aug 2. I have not received any requests for assistance at this time, but will remind others that’s available. The Chapter should be up for some awards- Derrick is coordinating the submission, with his experience at a multi-year Smythe Chapter (Delta Nu at Wayne State) we have been able to make significant progress towards a high level chapter. Details on the Academy if any of you guys want to try to attend as well: http://www.cvent.com/events/the-academy/event-summary-992913be8e814d94b9092126b638cc38.aspx. I will more than likely attend.
It definitely has been an interesting year of ups and downs, but honestly has been one of the most rewarding in all my volunteering efforts. I’m extremely proud of our guys and they have rediscovered that Pike Pride that we all had in the past. Looking forward to many great things from Kappa Chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha!!
